Because It All Starts At Home (Praying For The Salvation Of Your Family?)

Alicia already graduated college when she had a personal encounter with Jesus. It was during a time when she was so heartbroken that she agreed to tag along a friend to a youth service. Ever since that day, she felt the presence of God in her life. She didn’t expect that it will turn around everything in her life including her family.

During the time Alicia started attending a local church, she began praying for her family to encounter God as well. She placed it as a faith goal to have her younger siblings Ollie and Alyssa to come to church and know about salvation. But it wasn’t easy at first. Ollie, who was in high school then, didn’t want to come along. He always hesitated every time Alicia invited him to attend youth service.

Alyssa was also the same thing. In fact, she had no interest with her older sister’s new found “relationship with Christ.” She would always find an excuse like school work or school activity. Alicia could have easily given up on her siblings but she persisted and battled her challenge with prayers.

Every night she would pray for her siblings. She also continued to invite them to attend church with her. She was so persistent that Ollie finally decided to give in to his sister’s prodding. It was all God’s orchestration because the first time Ollie attended a youth service, he loved it so much. He enjoyed it a lot and clearly, the Holy Spirit had filled him up to the brim.

Eventually, Ollie had a change of heart and he was soon discipled and mentored by a church leader. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was later on baptized. Now, he is a leader as well and is making disciples just as what the Bible commanded, “Go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19.

But the story doesn’t end there. Alicia prayed for her sister fervently. Alyssa was hard at times but God was working in her life, softening her heart little by little. When Alyssa saw the changes in Ollie and Alicia, she started opening herself up to the idea of tagging along with them to a youth service. And because God is an awesome God, Alyssa encountered His love and surrendered her life to Him too.

Alicia’s testimony reminds us that our calling to spread the Good News starts in the family. And even though it may be hard, nothing is ever too hard for God. Alicia now continues to pray for her parents.

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31
